Big Cottonwood Canyon Information

Big Cottonwood Canyon is located on the south-east end of the Salt Lake Valley. This 15 mile long canyon provides a true rocky mountain experience yet is close enough to Salt Lake City to provide city amenities; if desired. Grocery stores, shopping, movies, additional dining options are just 15-25 minutes away from Utah Vacation Homes' cabins.

Dining

While the city is just a short drive from Big Cottonwood Canyon it's not necessary to leave the canyon. Silver Fork Lodge provides a great dining opportunity in a picturesque mountain setting. A variety of restaurants are also located at Solitude Resort:

Food found at Kimi's Mountainside Bistro reflects Kimi's travels throughout Europe, with the menu reflecting favorites from the Mediterranean, Scandinavia as well as Western America.

Stone Haus Pizzeria and Creamery offers fresh sandwiches, pizza, and hand-packed ice cream.

Fine-dining can be found at Solitude's St. Bernard's. The menu features local and gourmet ingredients with a first-class wine list. Reservations recommended.

The Yurt is open during the Winter as well as the Summer. During the Winter expect to cross country ski or snowshoe less than a mile through the moon and lantern lit forest to the Yurt where a five-course meal is prepared before your eyes. In the summer enjoy a four-course meal as the sun sets. Reservations required.

For a mountain pub experience visit The Thirsty Squirrel. While the menu consists of sandwiches, pizzas and salads during the week, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday offers fresh sushi and rolls as well.

Convenience Store

Solitude Resort offers a small convenience store, the Village Store, with limited supplies and sundries that may have been left home.

Skiing and Snowboarding in Big Cottonwood Canyon

Big Cottonwood Canyon is home to two of Utah's world-class ski resorts, Solitude and Brighton. The recreation opportunities of Big Cottonwood Canyon aren't limited to winter and are seemingly endless.

Hiking

Hiking in Big Cottonwood Canyon is spectacular with a wide variety of terrain and skill level requirement. Silver Lake is located at the top of the canyon near Brighton Resort. This easy hike is primarily on boardwalk with the rest on a well-maintained dirt path. Another popular, but more difficult, hike is Lake Blanche. This 6 mile round trip hike takes you to the base of Sundial Peak to Lake Blanche. The spur trails from Lake Blanche go to Lake Florence and Lake Lillian. Plan on spending an entire day on this hike. Donut Falls is another popular trail in Big Cottonwood Canyon and can be accessed year round (snowshoe in the winter). This hike leads to a unique waterfall, Big Cottonwood Creek runs through a donut-shaped hole in the mountainside.

Rock Climbing in Big Cottonwood Canyon is primarily bolted routes. Routes range in difficulty from beginner to expert.
